Panic FM: Born from a Group of Young Dreamers in Mirebalais
Panic FM traces its origins to a group of young people in Mirebalais who gathered near the Saint-Louis cathedral on weekends, with no particular background in communications but minds captivated by the idea of the microphone and the mystery of the airwaves. What began as informal weekend conversations about how to start a radio station became reality on March 26, 2006, when Panic FM broadcast its very first transmission on 97.5 FM.
The station's slogan, "Un choix selectif," a selective choice, reflects the founders' early commitment to balanced programming and professional ethics as the project's guiding pillar, even though the team that built it was largely untrained at the start. That commitment paid off: by its 13th anniversary in 2019, Panic FM had grown into a station with more than a dozen dynamic, dedicated journalists and a firm place in the daily lives of the people of Mirebalais.
As a general-interest station, Panic FM covers news, sports, politics, technology, art and culture, and social programming across Haiti's Centre department, under the leadership of CEO Joseph Allan Junior. The notable people of Mirebalais themselves helped support the station's early construction, treating it as a genuine source of local pride, and today it stands as a leading radio voice in the Centre department.
For the people of Mirebalais and the surrounding Centre department, Panic FM represents what a handful of young people with nothing but ambition and a shared dream were able to build from scratch.
